Lilla Freda Gibbs and Harold George Mosey

This is a website dedicated to Harold George Mosey (1914-1999) and Lilla Freda Gibbs (1902-1964) of London, and their families.  Some of the principal surnames are MOSEY, GIBBS, BURNELL, THOROWGOOD, BUGLAR, BUGLER, LOTT, BAXTER, WALLER, MODLIN, ENSOR and BUTTERMER.

George and Freda lived in North London, but their families came from all over England.  The Moseys were East Londoners through the 19th century, but seem to have come from Devon before that (where they were, perhaps, Moyseys — that variant spelling seems very common in the West Country).  The Gibbses were from Suffolk, but from Northamptonshire before that. The Burnells came to London from Quainton, Buckinghamshire, in the early 19th century, and are descendants of William Burnel of Syresham, Northants, born abt 1605.  The Buglars or Buglers came from Beaminster, Dorset. The Thorowgoods and Doddses were Londoners.  The Baxters hailed from North Cove, Lowestoft, Suffolk.  The Wallers were a family who were the long-standing tenants of Handford Hall in Ipswich, Suffolk, and the Ensors and Buttermers (or Buttermeres) were also Ipswich folks.  The Lotts came from Suffolk, descended from Robert Lott (1645-1724).  The Modlins originally came from Cumbria to East Anglia.  There’s also a Welsh line there:  from George Davies.

We know of relatives of George and Freda living in the UK, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
